Overview

SIS Credit is one of Bulgaria’s leading microfinance institutions and the country’s first credit provider certified under the European Code of Good Practice for Microcredit Provision, approved by the European Commission. Following its merger with Mikrofond in 2022, SIS Credit became the largest private financial institution in Bulgaria focused on startups and micro businesses, offering flexible financing alongside free business consultations to entrepreneurs who are building sustainable jobs across the country.

The institution has already supported more than 1,000 micro enterprises, with women entrepreneurs behind 45% of the businesses it finances. Its client base spans start-up founders, agricultural producers, SMEs, and social enterprises — borrowers whose businesses are viable, but whose risk profiles rarely fit the models built for conventional retail banking.

The Challenge

95% of SIS Credit’s clients had already been turned down by a traditional bank before they walked through the door. That is the reality of microfinance: the borrowers who need capital the most — startups, agricultural producers, women entrepreneurs, social enterprises — rarely fit the risk models built for conventional retail banking.

To serve these borrowers profitably, SIS Credit needed to originate and manage a wide mix of loan products — start-up loans, agricultural and micro-business credit, SME financing, leasing, and energy-efficiency loans — without carrying the IT overhead of a full-scale bank. At the same time, growth as a regulated EU credit provider meant SIS Credit needed reliable underwriting for non-traditional borrowers, tightly integrated accounting and financial reporting, and an efficient way to meet its EU AnaCredit regulatory reporting obligations — all without adding legacy infrastructure or headcount.

The Solution

COREFIN introduced its Lending & Banking solution, built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Azure, giving SIS Credit a single, cloud-based platform to launch and manage its full mix of credit products end-to-end — from origination through servicing — with the flexibility to underwrite non-traditional borrowers and the scalability to grow without adding legacy infrastructure.

To extend the platform beyond lending operations, COREFIN integrated Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central for accounting and financial analysis, giving SIS Credit a unified financial picture across its loan book without reconciling data between disconnected systems. A credit scoring engine was integrated directly into the origination workflow, allowing underwriters to assess non-traditional borrowers consistently and quickly. Finally, COREFIN built automated regulatory reporting into the platform, connecting SIS Credit’s loan and counterparty data directly to the EU AnaCredit framework so granular credit reporting to European authorities happens as a by-product of day-to-day servicing, not a separate manual exercise.

Key Capabilities Delivered

The Results

With COREFIN’s Lending & Banking platform, SIS Credit can keep saying yes to the entrepreneurs the rest of the market says no to — while staying lean, compliant, and cloud-native. The institution now originates and services a broad mix of loan products from a single platform, closes the loop between lending, accounting, and financial analysis, and meets its EU AnaCredit reporting obligations through automated, data-driven submissions rather than manual compilation.

  • Over 1,000 micro enterprises financed, with women entrepreneurs behind 45% of supported businesses
  • 95% of clients — borrowers previously declined by traditional banks — now underwritten profitably through integrated credit scoring
  • Continued certification under the European Code of Good Practice for Microcredit Provision, maintained while scaling on a compliant, cloud-based platform
  • Reduced manual effort on EU AnaCredit submissions through direct, automated regulatory reporting
  • A single, cloud-native platform replacing fragmented systems across lending, accounting, and reporting
